Jim & Claire Harvey

Welcome to our first attempt at blogging.  Our planned trip, by bike from Turkey to Spain, is just for fun, a break from our routines and, we hope, a bit of an adventure.  The blog is something we wanted to experiment with, a way of sharing our photos and stories as we pedal along.... maybe a blog post every couple of weeks.  It will be our way of staying in touch, a way to reconnect with some long lost friends and maybe make some new friends along the way.

Back home and hiking the Stawamus Chief. We are so lucky to live in such a peaceful and beautiful corner of the world!
Soooo...…we’ve been home a few weeks now and we are already back fully immersed into our pre-trip lives.  Claire is commuting to North Vancouver and her work as a mental health case worker.  She was very happy to see all her, super supportive, fellow workers and maybe a little less thrilled to immediately assume responsibility for a case load of 60 clients.

I’m back sitting at my computer designing homes.  I had to hit the ground running as demand is high and the local construction market is ‘over-heated’.  Though such a hot housing market is probably unsustainable I really shouldn’t complain.  We are both lucky to be able to step back into satisfying and gainful employment.

Our home is still standing, thanks to daughter Nina's management and some thoughtful tenants.  The garden is over grown and the house needs lots of maintenance but with our new found perspective on such matters, we will not worry about the details.

As a small gesture of appreciation for some of the hospitality we experienced during our trip we would like to raise some money on behalf of local efforts to host Syrian refugee families in Squamish.  Accordingly we’ve sorted through thousands of our pictures which we’ve whittled down to a presentable number and we will be putting on a slide show/talk of our trip at the Howe Sound Brew Pub on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 7 PM (in the Fire Bread Restaurant which will be open for the show).  Everyone is welcome, admission is free but we will be hoping for donations, 100% of which will be going to support Syrian refugees.  Representatives of the groups sponsoring the refugees will be on-hand to answer questions. We look forward to seeing you there.

Until then
Jim & Claire
